There are many reasons why business owners may not be ready to reach out to someone to discuss their succession plan and that’s why we created the online Exit Planning Assessment Questionnaire.

Build and Preserve Value

Based on the first two Core Services, we make specific recommendations to help grow business value and preserve company value by minimizing income taxes. Recommendations may include updating financial reporting systems, attainment of profitability goals and protecting proprietary information.

Business and Personal Resources

You and your SVA advisor will determine the current value of the business and its projected cash flow, as well as the amount of your non-business financial resources. Without an initial determination of what you have, we cannot measure progress toward your stated goals.

We can bring in another SVA entity, SVA Plumb Financial, if you currently do not use a wealth advisor that can assist with determining the personal resources side of this step in your transition.

Business Continuity

Business continuity planning encompasses a wide range of consequences that may follow the departure of the business owner. SVA will assist in the development and coordination of your business continuity planning depending on which avenue you choose - selling your business to insiders or to a third party.

Exit Objectives

Establish and test your key exit objectives (departure date, value you want or need from the business, and whom you want to sell/transfer to).

Identify Owner Objectives

We will work with you to identify your goal of selling your business to a third party or transferring your ownership to insiders. Your goals may also include reaching a target business value, protecting valuable business assets, developing an independent and strong management team, and motivating and retaining key employees.

Personal Wealth and Estate Planning

Typically owners want to maintain or replace the income stream they derive from the business even after they are no longer in an ownership position. Our SVA team will coordinate your estate plan emphasizing tax efficiency and ensuring you receive the amount of annual income necessary to satisfy the financial security goal you have set in the initial goal-setting stage of your transition plan.

Insiders are children, co-owners or key employees who often do not have the financial resources to pay owners what the company is worth.
