SVA’s Shawn Miller Examines Easy and Effective Ways to Minimize Risk and Prevent Fraud

SVA Certified Public Accountants professional Shawn Miller, CPA will present a breakout session at the 2023 Wisconsin Housing Alliance Annual Conference on November 9,2023 in the Wisconsin Dells.

Inspiring Ways to Minimize Risk and Prevent Fraud will discuss why fraud occurs and how to mitigate it. During the session, Shawn will share tips and best practices to help owners and managers feel confident in their organizations, even when they are not present. The session will cover three types of risk: physical risk, financial risk, and system risks. Key takeaways include fraud indicators, tips for deterring/preventing fraud, and setting appropriate internal controls.

Shawn is a Senior Manager with SVA Certified Public Accountants with expertise in the real estate and nonprofit industries. He oversees and performs audit and tax services for owners of a variety of affordable multifamily housing projects and for owners of projects receiving federal financial assistance. In addition to his real estate expertise, he also manages and performs audits and other attest work for a variety of nonprofit organizations, including charitable organizations as well as membership and trade associations.
