Expanding Footprint With A Purchase And A New Building
In 1991, Kim Lobdell, a self-proclaimed calculated risk taker, started KL Engineering. Now 25 years later, her company has grown to over 60 employees and three locations. They provide professional services built around a core specialization in transportation engineering and an unwavering customer service ethic. With offices in Madison, Green Bay, and Menomonie, KL Engineering provides civil engineering, survey, construction management, and environmental services for both public and private clients.
“As my company grew, I knew I needed a tax advisor and business consultant that would be proactive in providing me the information I need to make sound business decisions,” says Kim. “SVA provides both financial and business advice. They help me gauge what we are doing well, what we can do better and they develop strategies to guide my company into the future.”
KL Engineering recently purchased Kjohnson Engineers, and SVA helped structure the deal to provide the best outcome for both the seller and the buyer. They are expanding sales outside of Wisconsin and SVA researched the tax implications to prepare them for this new market. “SVA provides a wealth of knowledge and the principal we work with is always available to answer our questions and guide us to informed business decisions,” says Kim. “SVA is a proactive business partner taking care of the financial aspects of my business. SVA has been instrumental in providing me the pros and cons of tax structures, buy vs. lease scenarios, and feasibility planning for our new building.”
Looking to the future, Kim will eventually transition her company. SVA continues to work with her on her succession plan and eventual internal sale to employees, ensuring that KL Engineering will continue to grow and thrive into the future.
